Nigeria Assists Other African Nations with Space Technology

Summary:
During the recent concluded African Union meeting, Nigeria was requested to help other African Nations with information and help on space technology. It was in 2003 that Nigeria with the help of Surrey Satellite of the United kingdom, launched a satellite named “NigeriaSat-1’ which would map out the country and as part of a disaster monitoring constellation (DMC). The proposed program would help other African countries gain space education in different levels of education in their countries. The Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Prof. Robert Ajayi Boroffice stated that another project was in the work in which a new Satellite named NigeriaSat-2 would be built by Nigerian themselves. He added Nigeria would go on and be in the forefront of Space Technology in Africa.
Important Significance:
The Idea of other African countries taking a large interest in the technological developments of Nigeria is one that is very important. It goes to show that Nigeria is paving the way for other African countries in the field of space research. This will have various economical and developmental advantages for Nigeria and other countries. Even though there were a lot of critics that did not agree with the space research proposal, it can now been seeing that it is already having a positive impact on the country. Nigeria could well be on its way to been the most advanced space research center in Africa.

Members of the senior Advocates of Nigeria Stress That April Presidential Elections most Hold

SUMMARY:
Chief Gani Fawehinmi and Prof. Akin Oyebode among others, who are members of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria have stress their worries why the elections should take place even with the problems in the preparation by INEC. The group talked to the press and stated that the judiciary should not let any postponement take place. They argued that if the elections where postponed, it would later lead to great unrest in the country. That the president is trying to use his powers to increase his tenure. They added the past incident during Gen. Babangida’s regime when he postponed the handing over of power to civilian rule.
Important Significance:
A very important issue about this story is that, people are aware of what our leaders are trying to do to maintain power. Just as they stated our former military leader Gen. Ibrahim Babangida used the same tactic to postpone the handing over of power to the civilians back in June 1993. Mans nature is to learn for his mistakes and it seems that the members of the Senior Advocates have realized that history wants to repeat itself and are trying their best to prevent it. These are people who have witnessed the wrongs done to Nigeria by its leaders and are trying to prevent it from happening again.
